1923 is one of two new animation loops directed by Max Hattler, inspired by the work of French outsider artist Augustin Lesage. 1923 is based on Lesage’s painting ‘A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World’ from 1923.

Aesthetic Apparatus

This is a design company that produces screen prints for various musicians. Paul Blow told me about them and said to look at the test prints that are for sale. They are just a mishmash of other prints that were used for the bands. Here are a few examples which I find particularly interesting.

Paul Blow

Had a lecture from Paul Blow a very well established illustrator whose clients include: Time Magazine, The Guardian, The FT, Newscientist, Reader's Digest, BBC Worldwide, LA Magazine, New York Magazine. He talked to us about his career starting from his university work. He also explained his process of working. After the lecture I had a tutorial with him in which I should my work and got feed back. In this tutorial he suggested further research and other illustrators to look at.

Initial Statement of Intent

Through the next three months I intend to research festivals of various cultures in order to produce physical masks, which can be displayed, worn or photographed. I want to look into various folk and tribal cultures so as I can produce masks that represent those festivals. I want to produce several masks, out of paper folding and using other techniques and materials. I will start looking at origami and other folding techniques. I will also start looking into strange festivals from around the world.

Presentation Document

I will be using this blog as my way of presenting my work and development through this project. I intend to try and update this document every one or two days. I want to use this document as a means of following my development and so when it comes to my project being marked there will be a clear timeline showing the development of my work. It will hopefully show how my statement of intent has evolved into my final exhibition. I intend to follow my work, inspiration and ideas with scanned images, photographs, videos and general posts on this blog.

Puppetboy - a Lady Visitor

I saw this animation in my copy of Specialten. I found it pretty hilarious

Henrik Drescher

Heres some images from Dreschers portfolio which I like and find relevant to my own work.

Arthur Gray

Today I had a lecture with Stephanie Black today who talked to us about sequential narrative. I found it made me think about narrative in a very different way. I thought it was just a story told in scenes but it can be a multitude of things. She talked to us about different artists who deal with sequential narrative and what she finds interesting about them. One of them I had heard of but had never really researched until now. He is Henrik Drescher, she mentioned his book in the lecture and i now plan on buying it.

Turbulence : A Log Book by Henrik Drescher*, 2001

Description: "Turbulence is an intricately produced artist's book that catalogs Drescher's vivid world of images, and a visual narrative that follows one man through the troubled past, an uncertain future, and the enduring timelessness of myth."--P. This is a print I did on some pink paper that kind of looks like a brain

The paper wasnt very good quality so it warped. Plus my scanner isnt the best.

I stared cropping the image on photoshop

By cropping down on the image I can work with it as a new image. Would be cool as a record cover

Thought I'd start my blog with my favourite song at the moment
